A Well-Timed Illinois Weekend Getaway

January 28th, 2010

January is coming to a close. To me, January always feels like the real heart of winter. The excitement and energy of the holiday season is gone, and it seems like a long, long time until spring. It is cold in the Midwest, and the days, while growing longer now, are short. Sigh.

The best way to escape from the doldrums is to plan several Illinois weekend getaways at well-spaced intervals. Lucky for us all, the perfect moment for the first one is just around the corner, during the President’s Day / Valentine’s Day long weekend.

Our Galena Inn is situated in the heart of this historic town. A simple stroll is like walking through the past, since a good 85% of the buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Architecture buffs will delight in the many Italianate, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne homes that are lovingly maintained.

We have a number of tantalizing packages for your Galena Vacation. Let us ply you with champagne and fine chocolates. Or enjoy a special Valentine Weekend Romantic Candlelight Dinner at three lovely settings: appetizers at our Galena Inn, dinner at nearby Goldmoor Inn, and finally, dessert at the DeSoto House Hotel. It’s a fun and different twist on the romantic dinner.

Take in the sights of Galena, IL, and the surrounding area, or simply relax together at the inn. Browse our music collection and listen to a favorite tune while playing a game. Enjoy the company of others during our Wine Time each evening. Soak in the outdoor hot tub. Relax.

See you soon!

Happy Holidays in Historic Galena

November 20th, 2009

With rolling hills and countless historic buildings, Galena in Northwest Illinois is the place to head for the holidays. You know you need to take time out from your daily grind and prepare, whether that means shopping or buckling down and finishing hand-made gifts. Why not enjoy yourself while you get ready for Christmas?

Our Historic Galena Inn is a good place to be. Shopping excursions are delightful when they take place along the pleasant streets of Galena, (you don’t need to travel far to take advantage of all that Artists Row has to offer). When you can’t shop anymore, restore yourself with a glass of wine and a good story or two during “Wine Time” in the parlor.

There is a festive mood at our Galena Inn.

Our holiday decorations are up, including our miniature Dept. 56 Village. Secure a spot alongside our Christmas tree while you finish that knitting project. Soak in the hot tub in the cool winter air to ease shoulders sore from bending over a scrapbook. Join others for a glass of wine to celebrate a day of work well done.

A Galena Vacation can be a bargain. We offer several packages at this time of year that make travel both more affordable and more fun. Consider the Rejuvenation Getaway, complete with massages for two, or the Midweek Getaway, which gives you 3 Nights for the price of 2.
